May Message
Greetings Garden Friends,
It’s hard to believe that my presidency is winding down to a close. These past two years, during the time of COVID, brought many challenges and required us to adapt as a club. It was wonderful to be surrounded by a group of supportive, flexible, and talented women, who helped our club to continue serving and adding beauty to our community. Your encouraging words, sound advice and attentive ears meant a lot to me during my term as president. It has been a privilege and honor to work side by side with all of you. It is now my time to step aside, and let Julie Barnes step into the President’s role with her competent, extremely knowledgeable leadership.
Our May meeting will run a little differently. We will BEGIN at 10:30 with our program, “This is Genuine Pittsburgh” by Bob Callahan. He will wow us with musically accompanied photography and video images of this place we call home. His program will then be followed by lunch and our general meeting. Bob has a lot to do to set up for his presentation, and it would be impossible for him to do this during our business meeting. The business meeting will begin with the installation of the 2022-2024 officers.
Our plant sale is fast approaching on May 21st and hopefully many of you have potted up perennial plants if you could not attend the Diggum workshop. Keep cleaning out those closets/basements/attics for items for the FLEA MARKET portion of the sale, and keep those creative juices flowing on ideas for our crafts items to sell. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, bring your garden gloves, a chair if you need it, and wear your garden club T-shirt or newly embroidered garden club shirt with our logo to show your club pride.. Remember that this is our BIG fundraiser for the year, so it is important that we have all hands on deck. This month also kicks off the gardening season in our community gardens – David Councill, Ediths Garden, and the UPMC Passavant planters. Thanks again for all of your support these past two years.
Happy gardening! All the best, Kate Colville – IGC President: “Down to Earth and Diggin’ it…”
