July 2016 Commercial Choice / Marshall Township
Good Samaritan Hospice / 146 Neely School Road
For July's Garden of the Month's commercial choice we selected Good Samaritan Hospice on Neeley School Road. We met with Lori H. Roberts, the head volunteer, and Jamie Burke, the director of operations. The gardens are maintained by Lori and volunteers.
We selected this site because of the serenity and well kept grounds. These grounds have interesting color and texture which seem to lift one's spirits. There are three special gardens besides the plantings around the building.
The Memory Garden has liatris, butterfly weed, sedum, begonias, nepeta, and coreopsis. The interior garden has a Japanes maple, hostas, climbing roses, Threadbranch False Cypress, and box woods. You are greeted by a bight welcome flag at the welcome garden. The building is surrounded by dwarf Alberta spruce, hydrangeas, Cronus Florida, wisteria, barberry, boxwood, ferns with added color of begonias and periwinkles. The grounds give a sense of peace during a time of anguish.
