August Message
Greetings Gardening Friends,
We are certainly heading into the hot and muggy “Dog Days of Summer.” I’d rather be sitting on my covered porch under the ceiling fan with a tall glass of iced tea! It’s best this time of year to head out in the early morning or the evening for weeding, deadheading, and watering.
A wealth of gratitude goes out to Julie Barnes and Janet Eck for planning and coordinating our July Picnic up in Gibsonia. What a treat it was to have the delicious catered lunch and the deep shade of the pavilion. Our hospitality Committee offered plenty of cool drinks to keep us hydrated while our talented auctioneers - Julie and her trusty sidekick Jan Ranii-Dropcho – helped us raise much needed funds for our club. Thanks to everyone who donated plants and garden items. Hope everyone is enjoying the new additions to their yards!
I look forward to seeing everyone back at our pavilion at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Gibsonia, where we will host our awards recipients and their families for the poetry, poster, and essay contest. The kids will be sharing their winning entries with us after our business meeting. It is always a treat to celebrate with the kids and their families.
I want to extend a shout out and special thanks to all of you who are chairing our community garden projects and those of you out there working hard to help to beautify our community. It does NOT go unnoticed! We always have need for extra sets of hands, so consider signing up to help out with our projects at the August meeting.
Don’t forget that our District IX Annual Meeting is just around the corner! Let’s have a great showing from our club. The reservation deadline is August 23rd. As for the heat and humidity, remember that your garden vegetables love the sun and heat, so enjoy the bounty while you can! And also enjoy sipping that iced tea in the shade….:)
