Zottola's Pub and Eatery

5968 Bakerstown Culmerville Road.

Tarentum, PA.

The old Culmerville Hotel, with its custard colored siding and chocolate shutters made a perfect backdrop for Cindy Zottola, wife of Ray Zottola, owners of Zottola’s Pub and Eatery, to demonstrate her flair for gardening..  As you come around the bend on Bakerstown Culmerville Road, heading east toward Saxonburg Road, you wonder if you skipped a turn and wound up at Bakerstown Feed and Garden Center.

Cindy solved the problem of minimal ground space, by using a vertical surface, the building, to landscape the property.  All the hotel windows have window boxes overflowing with purple and lime green sweet potato vines sprinkled with petunias and bacopa.  This theme is repeated with box planters and large pots on, in and around the adjacent covered patio.  Small arborvitae in pots, on either side of the entrance are the only  “permanent” plants .  Yellow marigolds and deep red zinnias, coleus and hanging ferns make up the rest.  Bon Appetit
